We coordinate all Street Works activities being a Permit Authority and carry out various Street Works Inspections including Sample Inspections (PBI), Target Inspections, plus Routine Inspections. Wirral Council has conducted and published Permit scheme evaluation reports for the periods 2017 to 2020 but still needs to undertake a formal review for the periods 2021 to 2024. Wirral Council does not actively involve or seek input from Utilities in the preparation and development of our highway maintenance programme, although we do share details of the preliminary annual programme once approved, so we can then coordinate the highway schemes with other Utility works programmes. |

We would potentially be interested in exploring the operation of a Lane Rental scheme at some point in the future but would first need to identify which streets it would likely operate on, and understand the possible costs & benefits of operation, before developing a business case to decide whether it would be in the Council’s interest to progress a potential scheme any further. We are currently undertaking a review of the Council’s Street Gazetteer and Traffic Sensitive designations, in line with the data quality Improvement schedule with GeoPlace. |
