Millfields CE Primary School Closure Proposal Consultation - Other options considered

Recovery as a standalone school has been considered as an option. No credible or deliverable strategy has been identified that would secure a sufficient increase in
pupil numbers within a realistic timeframe.

Federation was explored as a potential option. However, this would require significant and sustained financial support from the council over a prolonged period, with no certainty that pupil numbers would recover sufficiently to secure long-term sustainability. This option would require funding support equivalent to approximately 100 pupils over a period of three to five years, without any guarantee of a corresponding increase in pupil numbers.

Amalgamation was also considered; however, no practical or geographically appropriate opportunities have been identified that would improve long-term sustainability, particularly given the school's Church of England designation.

Potential academisation was considered. However, the school's current financial position, declining pupil numbers and leadership challenges significantly reduce the likelihood of securing a suitable academy sponsor without substantial ongoing financial support from the council.

Managed decline has been considered. This option presents significant educational and financial risks, including prolonged instability, declining provision for pupils, further reductions in pupil numbers and increasing challenges in retaining staff.
