Millfields CE Primary School Closure Proposal Consultation - Educational standards

The school has been judged to require improvement on two occasions. During the most recent monitoring inspection in September 2025, it was noted by OFSTED that leaders were not taking effective action to secure the necessary improvements. The report stated in this regard that, "The lack of decisive action over time has ultimately meant that pupils' experiences have not been of the necessary quality for them to achieve consistently well."

Following this inspection, the council requested approval from the Department for Education to implement an IEB to replace the Governing Board. This was granted and the IEB was put in place to begin to drive rapid improvements in March 2026.

Just over two months later, in June 2026, the school was inspected again and judged to require Special Measures. In accordance with Section 44 of the Education Act 2005, His Majesty's Chief Inspector was of the opinion that the school required special measures because it was failing to provide pupils with an acceptable standard of education and those responsible for leading, managing or governing the school were not demonstrating the capacity to secure the necessary improvement.
