The We Are Wirral Children’s Services campaign significantly supports and informs Corporate Parenting by reinforcing Wirral Council’s collective responsibility to act as a good parent to children in care and care leavers. Its focus on doing the right thing for children and families and ensuring that children who come into care are better off because of it, aligns directly with the core principles of Corporate Parenting.

In our Children’s Services Directorate, we believe that every child who comes into our care should be better off because of it. Corporate Parenting is more than a duty; it’s a shared responsibility across our whole organisation to act with the same care, commitment, and ambition as any good parent would. We want children to feel safe, supported, and hopeful about their future.

Being in care should be a turning point for children; a chance to thrive, not just get by. That means listening to them, understanding their experiences, and making sure they have the right support at the right time. It means working together (social workers, carers, health professionals, educators, and others) to create stability, build trust, and open opportunities.

Our vision is simple: children in our care should feel valued, loved, and able to reach their potential. We are determined to make sure their time in care is a positive chapter in their lives, not just a necessary intervention.
