Proposed changes to library services
Wirral Council is proposing changes to its library services across the borough. We want to know what you think about the proposals.
All of our libraries are equipped with computers, printers, scanners and internet access.
You will need your library member’s card number and library PIN to use computers in Wirral libraries. If you don’t know your PIN, please ask a member of staff.
Job seekers are exempt from computer use charge, when doing job searches, provided that their proof of status is given. However, printouts but must be paid for.
Free access to computers for job seekers is also extended to those wishing to complete any benefit claim (including Local Welfare Assistance) in libraries.
Software, including Microsoft Office Word and Excel is available.
Children need parent or carer permission before using the internet. All computers have filtering software in operation.
Library members can use the computers for free for the first hour, and then £1.20 per half hour after that.
There is free wifi in all Wirral libraries, with wireless printing from your mobile devices available in the following libraries:

Apple devices:
Once your webpage, email or file is open, click on the share icon, scroll to the bottom and select ‘Print’.
Android devices:
Once your webpage, email or file is open, look for the three dots icon, and select ‘Print’, or the Share icon and then Print.
Alternatively, if you are a library member and have your library card number and PIN, you can print from the comfort of your own home at any time.

Enter your postcode and you will see a map showing all the libraries that you can send your document to. Click on your preferred collection library and enter your borrower number and pin, and then upload your document, and send. You can then visit the library you selected, and your print will be waiting for you. Your prints will be held until the end of the following day.

While using our library computers, you have free access to our online resources:
Hublet tablets are available to borrow at Birkenhead Central Library. They are easy to use and free if you have a library membership.
With a Hublet you can use the internet or view e-books, e-magazines and e-newspapers. You can also print things off and use library online resources such as Find My Past.
