PCs and Hublets

Public computers and devices helping make I.T. accessible to all

Using a library computer

Library members can use our computers for free for the first hour, and then £1.20 per half hour after that.

Children need parent or carer permission before using the internet. All computers have filtering software in operation.

You will need your library card number and PIN to use computers in Wirral libraries.

If you don’t know your PIN, please ask a member of staff. To get a library card join a library online.

If you do not have a library card, you can still access Council services and your MyWirral account via our computers using the ‘Council etc’ button.

Software, including Microsoft Office Word and Excel is installed on all PCs.

Make sure you save your work as you go on an external pen drive, your cloud service or by emailing it to yourself and give yourself plenty of time to request extra time at the counter. Your work will not be saved.

Free computer access

Job seekers are exempt from computer use charge when carrying out job searches, provided that proof of status is shown. However, printouts must be paid for – see for details and exceptions.

Free access to computers is also extended to those wishing to complete any benefit claim (including Local Welfare Assistance) in libraries.

Hublet Tablets

Hublet tablets are available to borrow on both floors of Birkenhead Central Library. They are free to use. Just unlock one with your library card details. Once your hour is up you can replace that tablet and borrow another straight away.

With a Hublet tablet you can use the internet, a range of apps and view e-books, e-magazines and e-newspapers from anywhere in the library. You can also print from them via our free wi-fi and use library online resources such as Find My Past.
