Coroner's records
· Birkenhead – Inquest Registers, 1898-1972
· Wallasey – Inquest Registers, 1937-1976
· Wallasey – Inquest Papers, 1950-1974
· Wirral – Inquest Papers, 1974-2005 (and ongoing)
Inquest Registers are open, but the Inquest Papers are closed to the general public for 75 years. Close relatives of the deceased wishing to view Inquest Papers are to apply to the Coroner’s Office for permission. Even where Inquest Papers are older than 75 years and have become open, permission to view them must still be sought from the Coroner’s Office.
Note: some very early Wallasey inquests may come under Birkenhead.
