Memorial benches on South Parade in West Kirby

Wirral Council is working on a flood defence scheme in West Kirby, along South Parade, between Riversdale Road and Sandy Lane. The council is looking at options to enhance the promenade by incorporating seating within the flood defence.

As a result of the new structure, existing benches will be replaced and plaques will need to be moved. The council will be contacting registered owners of benches to discuss their wishes going forward. Existing memorial plaques may be re-located, either be within the new seating areas of the flood defence, or within a defined memorial area.

It is for these reasons that we are currently unable to process any requests for memorial benches at South Parade. We realise that this may be upsetting, but we would encourage you to consider an alternative location for the siting of your proposed memorial bench. Alternatively, please delay your request until details of how memorial plaques will be included within the flood defence scheme are confirmed.

Report a problem with a bench

Memorial Registration scheme

Wirral Council and local memorial masons have developed the Memorial Registration scheme to help ensure the safety of memorials, quality service and high standards of workmanship.

For a memorial mason to be registered all of their memorials must be installed according to the National Association of Memorial Masons (NAMM) code of working practice and their work must be covered by a 10 year workmanship guarantee. Members of the British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons (BRAMM) can also provide this guarantee.
