Wirral Archives History Workshops 2026

Wirral Archives present the following free local history workshops to be held on the following dates at 2pm in the Wirral Archives Search Room:

The people and materials involved in the design, construction and repair of this iconic local landmark.
Jim Marshall, leader of the Wirral Geology and Landscape Project
Thursday 2 April Wirral’s connection with canals.
On the 50th anniversary of the National Waterways Museum at Ellesmere Port.

Friday 8 May The Industry of Wirral. Robert Jones
Friday 5 June Some graves of Bebington Cemetery.
Graves of those who served in the military and who died in aeronautical disasters.
Steve Morgan and Val Beecroft of the Friends of Bebington Cemetery
Friday 3 July Merseyside and the American Civil War as fought from the UK. Councillor Jerry Williams
Friday 7 August Wirral between the Wars. William Meredith
Friday 4 September The Foundling Hospital, Chester.
The local branch of the Foundling Hospital established in London by Thomas Coram in 1739 as a home for babies whose mothers were unable to care for them.

Friday 30 October Churchyard and Cemeteries.
Burials practices from the Middle Ages to the present.
William Meredith
Wednesday 11 November The Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
The history of the Commission, the two World Wars, horticulture and landscaping, and how the cemeteries are cared for today.
