Join the library

It’s absolutely free to join Wirral Libraries! We have two library membership types:

  • Full library membership
  • Digital only membership

Full Library membership

Your card can be used in all Wirral libraries to borrow resources and use our computers. You do not need to be a library member to enter the building, use the toilets, access free Wi-Fi, use our wireless printing facilities, browse, sit, study or shelter.

You can join in person at any library, or via the online form. You just need to bring in a form of ID with your name and address on it (that is, driving licence, bank statement, council tax bill).

If you join via the online joining form, your temporary card number will be sent to the email address you provide, together with a link to create your PIN.  You will have 3 weeks to use your temporary number to try our BorrowBox service (to download eBooks, eAudio books, eMagazines and eNewspapers) or call into your local library to upgrade to a full Library Card.

With your full library card, you will be able to:

  • borrow up to 16 items for three weeks at a time if you are an adult
  • borrow up to 8 items for three weeks at a time if you are a junior
  • borrow DVDs and Blu-Rays (4 maximum), CDs, audio books, music and vocal scores, language courses, micro:bits & ukuleles! Only via an adult ticket
  • renew items
  • reserve items
  • download eBooks, eAudio books, eMagazines and eNewspapers via Borrowbox
  • check your account history, renew and reserve items online
  • access a range of online reference resources for free
  • access our public computers and Hublet tablets
  • access your account, pay for fines, charges and printing via the Self-Serve Kiosks

Items borrowed can be returned to any of Wirral’s Libraries, except for ukuleles which must be returned to the library from which you borrowed them.

Digital Only membership

You will be able to enjoy straight away the full range of eBooks, eAudiobooks, eNewspapers, eMagazines from our BorrowBox service.

Use the online joining form below and select DIGITAL USER ONLY as your local library, then read and accept the membership conditions. (You must be over 14 to join online as a Digital Only user).

Your eLibrary card number will be sent to the email address you provide, together with a link to create your PIN.

Your eLibrary card will last for two years before needing to be renewed. It’s perfect for people who only want to enjoy our digital services. At renewal time, just contact any library and confirm your details to renew.

To enjoy the full benefits of Wirral Libraries, including free use of PCs for an hour each day, and a huge range of books to borrow across all our libraries, it’s easy to upgrade to a full Library Card at any time. Just take your eLibrary card number and some proof of ID and address (for example, driving licence or a recent utility bill) to your library of choice, and our staff will convert it for you to a full Wirral Libraries library card.

Your card can be used in all Wirral libraries to borrow resources and use our computers. You do not need to be a library member to enter the building, use the toilets, access free Wi-Fi, use our wireless printing facilities, browse, sit, study or shelter.
