Events for schools

Book a visit to introduce your classes to their local library, listen to stories, take part in events and activities and choose books to take back to the classroom.

Our libraries offer all, or some, of the following:

  • Introduction to the library - suitable for all KS1/KS2 – ideal if the class has never visited the library before with a short instruction to how the library works
  • Library storytime - suitable for EYFS and KS1 -  activities include listening to stories, singing and a short craft activity
  • Books about books - an extension of the introduction to the library where the class visit session explores how to choose a book and explore the bookshelves with a short activity
  • Themed class visit - this can include the above but has a themed topic that matches the curriculum utilising fiction and non-fiction books
  • Book exchange – after an introductory session led by the library team, classes can revisit on a regular interval to choose books without library support using a class ticket (class tickets held in library).
  • Wild About class visit:

A themed class visit about nature/eco-awareness topic

  • Introduction to the library
    • Fiction and non-fiction books and how they can support the topic
    • Age-appropriate story/poem or a group discussion
    • Den-making, where possible, and knots depending on age group
    • Simple craft/activity depending on age group
    • Quiz (KS1/KS2)
    • Mini-beast hunt or similar (KS1)

One-off events

When external funding allows, we host author or cultural enriched sessions. Please let us know if you would like to be made aware of these opportunities via email.

Displays and Exhibitions

We are pleased to host displays and exhibitions in relation to any school projects and provide space for your children to have their creative work on display for the community to enjoy. For example we have hosted displays on the themes of peace, empathy, community, belonging and much more.
