Explore the diversity of trees across our parks with our self‑guided tree trails.
Each downloadable trail introduces a selection of trees chosen to highlight the variety of species across the park, with clear maps to help you locate them. When you visit, botanical labels on each relevant tree will guide you along the route and bring the trails to life.
These trails are part of our Tree, Hedgerow and Woodland Strategy and are designed to help people discover the many different trees growing in Wirral’s parks.
The botanical labels provide more than just a tree’s common name. They also include its scientific name, natural distribution, and the plant family it belongs to.
Scientific names are used worldwide, helping to avoid confusion between different common names. They can also provide useful clues about a tree’s identity, including the group it belongs to and whether it is a naturally occurring species, a cultivated variety, or a hybrid of two species.
We are starting with five parks and will be adding more trails over time.
