You can sponsor a street tree outside your home or dedicate a tree in one of Wirral’s parks or recreation grounds to mark a special occasion.
While we plant trees across the borough each season to help address the environment and climate emergency, we recognise that we cannot always plant trees in the locations preferred by residents and communities. This scheme offers individuals, groups, and organisations the opportunity to sponsor a tree in a location that is meaningful to them.
How the scheme works
- Choose your preferred location.
- Site assessment: We will assess the location to identify any constraints, such as underground utilities or overhead services.
- Confirmation: If the location is suitable, we will send you a sponsorship agreement form and invoice.
- Planting: Once payment has been received, your tree will be scheduled for planting.
Sponsorship options
£445 - Sponsorship with watering service
Includes a council watering service. Additional watering by you during hot weather is encouraged to support establishment.
£265 - Sponsorship without watering service
Does not include watering. You will be responsible for watering the tree to ensure its successful establishment.
Payment is only requested once your sponsorship has been formally confirmed.
What your sponsorship includes
Your contribution covers:
- an ‘instant impact’ tree (8 to 10 cm girth, typically 3 to 4 metres in height)
- support stake and tie
- weld mesh protective cage
- irrigation pipe and watering bag
Exact specifications may vary depending on species availability and site conditions.
Timescales
- Orders placed by 16 October: planted by the end of February (same planting season)
- Orders placed after 16 October: planted in the following winter planting season
We aim to confirm your sponsorship within 8 weeks of your application.
Plaques
The council does not provide plaques as part of this scheme. You may install a small plaque at your own expense; however, tributes are not permitted and may be removed.
Tree replacement
If your sponsored tree fails, we will replace it once at no additional cost.
As trees are living organisms and subject to environmental conditions, there is always a risk of failure. No refunds will be provided if a replacement tree also fails.
