During cold spells, local schools are often unable to open either because the conditions are too dangerous for pupils or staff to make the journey in, or because the weather has caused heating systems to fail.
Where possible, the schools themselves inform parents directly if the school is forced to close. Often, however, the decision to close is taken at short notice. In these circumstances, school closures will be announced on local radio stations and will also be published in the news section of this website. Schools will also post a notice on their own websites, if they have one.
If you have any doubt as to whether your child’s school is open or closed on a particular day, please refer to one of these sources.
