Environmental policies

Any land where hazardous substances are likely to be present in the environment can be termed contaminated land. These can include toxic substances, chemical waste or manufacturing by-products contained in the soil structure.

Contaminated land is considered to be a legacy of our industrial past. It’s Wirral Council’s responsibility to inspect this land and so we’ve developed a strategy accordingly.

Upon any application for Planning Permission, we may ask developers for reports on the investigation of contamination.  Where this has been identified, specific measures to be undertaken by the developer can be attached to any planning permission given.
