Coastal structures and maintenance

The council manages and maintains different types of structures on and around the Wirral coast, including:

  • vertical walls
  • sloped embankments
  • rock revetments and breakwaters
  • steps and slipways
  • railings
  • aids to navigation

Inspections of all coastal structures, including those in private ownership, are carried out on a regular basis. These also take place before and after storm tides to ensure major damage to seawalls is fixed as soon as possible. Whenever necessary, specialist contractors are used.
