How to vote
To request a postal vote you must be registered to vote in the UK before you can apply.
You'll need:
- the address where you are registered to vote
- your National Insurance number or other identity documents, for example a passport
- the specific date of the election or referendum you want to make a postal vote, if you only want a one-off postal vote
You’ll also need to upload a photo of your handwritten signature in black ink on plain white paper.
If you cannot provide a signature or one that always looks the same, you may be able to apply for a postal vote signature waiver within the service.
You might be asked for extra documents to identify you.

Proxy Vote
You can get someone else to vote on your behalf (a proxy) if you cannot go to the polling station in person.
Use this service to apply to vote by proxy in:
- general elections and other UK Parliamentary elections
- local elections in England (including mayors)
- Police and Crime Commissioner elections in England and Wales
- referendums
- MP recall petitions
You and your proxy must both be registered to vote in the UK before you can apply.
You must apply by 5pm, at least 6 working days before polling day.
If you miss the deadline you may be able to apply for an emergency proxy vote apply for an emergency proxy vote.

Before you apply for a Proxy vote
Ask your proxy’s permission before you apply.
You’ll need:

Update details of an existing proxy vote
Contact electoral@wirral.gov.uk
If you want to cancel an existing postal or proxy voting arrangement you must do so in writing. Send an email to electoral@wirral.gov.uk and we will send you a cancellation form.
You cannot cancel a postal or proxy application on someone else’s behalf.
