Appendix 3 - Installation of kerb surrounds

The installation of kerb surrounds within Wirral Cemeteries is subject to the following conditions, in addition to those already in existence for the provision of Memorials.

A3.1 - The kerb surround must be of natural stone, such as granite, marble, or other approved design. Free stone, soft York stone, fireclay, composite materials, wood, or metal will not be permitted to be fixed.

A3.2 - For traditional and non-lawn sections, no kerb surround will exceed the external measurements of 900mm (3 feet) in width and an overall length from the headstone of 1828mm (6 foot).

A3.3 - For lawn sections, including cremated remains sections, no kerb surround will exceed the external measurements of 900mm (3 feet) in width and an overall length from the headstone of 457mm (18 inches).

A3.4 - Baby graves (Landican Cemetery only) no kerb surround will exceed the external measurements of 609mm (24 inches) in width and an overall length from the headstone of 838mm (33 inches).

A3.5 - To ensure the continued maintenance of the kerb surrounds, kerbs will be allowed under a permit for a period of 10 years only, and the license will be renewable on expiry of this period.

A3.6 - The grave owner should be advised of their responsibility to ensure that the headstone, kerb, and any other items are removed 48 working hours before any interment is due to take place.

A3.7 - Following the removal of the headstone, kerbs, etc., for an interment, all items must be removed from the cemetery until the grave has completed its settlement and they are able to be re-installed. Any kerb surrounds left upon sections will be disposed of.

A3.8 - All memorials must be installed in accordance with BS8415:2018 and the appropriate industry code of practice every time a memorial is fixed or re-fixed into one of our cemeteries.

A3.9 - All memorials and tributes admitted to any of the Council's cemeteries or permitted to be erected shall remain at the sole risk of the owner, and the Council shall not be responsible for any damage or breakage which may occur.
