Types of grave

New full graves are available at Landican, Frankby, Heswall and Plymyard Cemeteries.

Graves can accommodate up to 3 coffin burials, depending on the cemetery. They can also accommodate cremated remains caskets.

Grave memorials are lawn or traditional style.

Graves can be chosen, once the burial has been booked. Please contact us to make an appointment, otherwise we will choose a grave on your behalf.

Lawn graves

Lawn graves are available at Landican, Frankby, Plymyard and Heswall Cemeteries. They allow for a memorial to be placed at the head of the grave. The memorial must be no larger than 1200mm (4 feet) high, 900mm (3 feet) wide and 75mm (15i inches) from the front to the back.

The main grave area will be grass seeded at the appropriate time. Please see our grounds maintenance information – (hyperlink, please click here). No items are permitted on the grassed area of the grave. This allows for a good standard of maintenance on the section.

For larger memorials, or items on the main body of the grave, a traditional grave would be a better choice.

Traditional graves

Traditional graves

Traditional graves allow for a larger memorial than a lawn grave. As well as a headstone, this memorial could include a surround to the grave. This can be kerbs or edgings or a stone slab that covers the grave space.

The grave space can also be planted and maintained by the family. The maximum external size permitted for kerbs or planting of the grave is 1828mm (6 feet) in length and 900mm (3 feet) wide.

Natural burial (woodland) graves

Natural burial is a more environmentally friendly method of burial.

The area is divided into sections with all of the grave spaces accurately recorded on maps. Burial plots and cremated remains plots are both available. Each grave will be dug to accept two full interments and up to two sets of cremated remains.

The area has been planned to recreate an eco-friendly environment. It provides important environmental benefits for the encouragement and protection of wildlife.
