Notice of Audit completion of the Financial Statements and delay in conclusion

Wirral Council Statement of Accounts 2022-23

The Accounts and Audit (England) Regulations 2015 and The Accounts and Audit (Amendment) Regulations 2022

Notice is hereby given that the Audit of the 2022-23 Financial Statements of Wirral Council and Merseyside Pension Fund have been completed as in accordance with Section 25 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act, the Accounts and Audit (England) Regulations 2015 Part 5 regulation 16 and the Accounts and Audit (Amendment) Regulations 2022.

The local government electors under Section 25 of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 may inspect and make copies of:

  1. The Statement of Accounts
  2. The auditor’s opinion on the statement of Accounts.

The Auditors have not yet issued the certificate of completion of the audit at this time and therefore the audit is not yet concluded. This is because the report on the Council’s arrangements for securing economy, efficiency and effectiveness in its use of resources has not been issued. Work to issue this and then conclude the Audit is expected by 15 May 2024, which is within three months of the opinion on the statement of accounts. This is permitted under the special provision in National Audit Office’s Auditor Guidance Note 03.

The documents referred to above will be made available for inspection every Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm (except bank holidays). Photocopies of the signed statements can also be provided but there will be a fee for this service.

If you would like to use any of these services, then please apply to Shaun Allen, Senior Finance Manager, Wirral Council, via email Fin_publicinspection@wirral.gov.uk
