Wirral Libraries - Code of practice

  • Wirral Library Service provides public access to the Internet in keeping with its role as a source of information, intellectual development and to help meet the digital inclusion agenda.
  • All users are expected to demonstrate a responsible approach to the use of resources made available to them; and to show consideration for other users and staff, both using the Libraries' facilities and those with whom they may come into contact on the Internet.
  • The library service cannot accept responsibility for slow network responses; non availability of web sites; the content of any e-mails received by users; other users retrieving information from personal documents saved on our systems; or any loss resulting from use of a credit/debit card over the Internet.
  • The library service has no control over the information accessed and cannot be held responsible for the content or quality of the information retrieved.
  • Appropriate filters are installed on all computers to restrict access to sites considered unsuitable by Wirral Council.
  • Any restriction of a child's access to the Internet will be the responsibility of the child's parent or guardian.
  • Transmission of any material in violation of any laws is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to: copyrighted material; pornographic material or material protected by trade secret.
  • Accounts of all users will be monitored through the use of a software programme to restrict access to prohibited material and to monitor inappropriate usage of free time for job searches.
  • The use of personal software is not permitted on any library computer.
  • For saving information personal memory sticks should be used. It must not be saved to a computer's hard drive.
  • It is only permitted to access sites providing live television broadcasts if you have a TV licence at home and you view on a mobile device which is powered by internal batteries.
  • We reserve the right to suspend the membership of any individual whose behaviour is considered inappropriate.
