Trading advice for food businesses

Advice on food labelling and the information that must be provided to customers can be found on the Food Standards Agency website for businesses.

The Food Standards Agency provides information and materials in relation to food safety campaigns and allergens. All allergens used in food must be identified and the information made available to customers.

View further information and advice about allergens if you own a food business

For detailed guidance on allergens check Allergy Guidance to Food Businesses on GOV.UK.

Some foods which are incorrectly labelled or pose a risk to food safety are recalled by manufacturers. The full up-to-date list can be accessed in the News Centre of the Food Standards Agency website.

Health and nutrition claims

Claims in relation to the health or nutritional benefits of food are strictly regulated. This extends to claims made online and in magazines, etc. If a health or nutritional claim has not been sanctioned by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) then it cannot be used. Check with the EU Health Claims Register.
