All food business operators are liable for inspection by the Trading Standards Service .

The information you provide will allow us to tailor any guidance you may need in relation to your food business and we can ensure that you receive information regarding any appropriate updates to legislation or government guidance. It will also allow us to accurately risk assess your business in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice and may avoid an officer unnecessarily having to conduct a physical inspection at your premises.

The Food Standards Agency provides information and materials in relation to food safety campaigns and allergens. All allergens used in food must be identified and the information made available to customers.

Some foods which are incorrectly labelled or pose a risk to food safety are recalled by manufacturers. The full up-to-date list can be accessed in the News Centre of the Food Standards Agency website.
Health and nutrition claims
Claims in relation to the health or nutritional benefits of food are strictly regulated. This extends to claims made online and in magazines, etc. If a health or nutritional claim has not been sanctioned by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) then it cannot be used. Check with the EU Health Claims Register.
