This course is a Level 1 qualification from Open Awards, to improve your employability prospects.

This course (10x2hr sessions) is designed to introduce you to the fascinating subject of Sign Language (BSL). You will learn basic signs around a variety of topics, whilst also learning a variety of employability skills, essential to the work place and in the volunteering sector.  The emphasis is on developing a broad vocabulary of BSL signs that will enable you to cope practically in a variety of situations. 

Everyone who wants to achieve a basic qualification in BSL.  The aim is to help use BSL in a variety of settings.  We will cover how you can use signing in the workplace, for employability skills, for volunteering and for use in family and social settings.  This is a course for beginners, so no previous experience is expected.  The goal is to enable all course members to communicate effectively with deaf and hearing impaired people, through learning in an imaginative, practical, enjoyable and adult environment.
