Wirral Council is responsible for approximately 737 miles of road throughout the borough. The road maintenance programme is completed annually, and sees improvements made to main and minor roads in Wirral.
For the 2020 programme the council is investing close to £6 million to maintain our roads, to fix potholes and repair other problems with the surface of our roads. The council’s contractors will use a variety of materials and surfacing methods. This depends on the construction of the road and the level of durability that is needed.
The roads to be repaired are chosen after an extensive process of prioritisation. This includes surveys and reports from highways inspectors, Councillors and members of the public.
