Sometimes temporary traffic lights are needed to direct traffic while road works or street works are being carried out.
Please be aware the fees for a Bag and Switch Off of an existing traffic signal junction or pedestrian crossing have increased as set out below.
If the application involves the switching off and switching on of existing traffic signals or a signalised pedestrian crossing, then you will have to pay a fee online through the GOV.UK website when applying for the use of Temporary Traffic Signal per site.
During normal working hours Monday to Saturday 8am to 7pm, excluding Bank Holidays is £795.
Outside normal working hours is £910.
The above fees do not apply if the set up does not conflict with an existing traffic signal junction or pedestrian crossing.
The following minimum notice periods are required to approve Temporary Traffic Signal applications:
| Category of Work (as defined by NRSWA) | Period |
|---|---|
| Immediate (Emergency and Urgent) | Telephone prior to set-up (fast track application / retrospective process) |
| Minor Works (3 days duration) | 7 days |
| Standard Works (10 days duration) | 7 days |
| Major Works (more than 10 days duration) | 20 days |
