Older road users

As we get older our reflexes can start to slow. We may develop aches and pains that we never had before which can affect confidence in getting out and about in the community safely.

Safer for Longer workshop

The Road Safety Team offer a free Safer for Longer workshop to raise awareness of road safety issues for the over 60 age group who are increasingly over represented in casualty statistics as drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

The workshop includes information on eye sight, medication, lifestyle, mobility, driving assessments and public transport.

The workshop is delivered in an informal interactive format through discussion and sharing experiences. A road safety officer will provide information and advice to help keep people safer for longer whether they are walking, riding, travelling as a passenger or a driver.

If you are part of a community group and you think your group will benefit from a workshop we can come to you.

Or if you are an individual we will do our best to fit you into an existing group session.

Drive Safely for Longer assessment

A Drive Safely for Longer driving assessment is a 2-hour session for drivers aged 60+. This Merseyside Road Safety Partnership funded scheme was launched in 2016 and has proved to be very popular with close to 2500 assessments completed so far.

The cost of the session is £20. Assessments are part funded by Merseyside Road Safety Partnership, so drivers only need to pay £20 to their driving instructor on the day of the assessment.

This particular road safety initiative is designed to help senior drivers brush up on their skills and address any concerns they may have so that they can drive safely for longer.
