Increasing numbers of older drivers are becoming involved in road traffic collisions in Wirral. A 70 year-old involved in a collision is three times more likely to die from their injuries than a 20 year-old in identical conditions.
Safer for Longer
Wirral Council offers a free, informal information sessions called ‘Safer for Longer’. The session includes information on mobility, driver assessments, lifestyle, public transport and practical assistance, including eyesight testing and a brake reaction test. Even experienced drivers can slip into bad habits and may need to refresh their knowledge, make modifications to vehicles’ or look at alternative modes of transport.
The ‘Safer for Longer’ session is a free event to help keep older people driving safer for longer. The sessions are run according to demand. If you are aware of an individual or group of older people who would benefit from 'Safer for Longer', please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
