Description of the Scheme
This project will involve the implementation of new off-road walking and cycling facilities. This will increase connectivity on the A41 between Wirral International Business and Croft Retail Park.
Work for the project will involve:
- 1.5km of new off-road walking and cycling infrastructure
- 2 improved crossing facilities
Benefits of the Scheme
The project will see improvements made to the network for pedestrians and cyclists, making it safer and more accessible for residents to travel sustainably.
These improvements will:
- improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists
- provide attractive routes for pedestrians and cyclists
- improve health and wellbeing by encouraging walking and cycling
- improve air quality
How the scheme will be funded
The project is being funded by the Wirral Sustainable Transport Enhancements Programme Package (STEP).
The STEP funding is part of the Growth Deal approved under the Devolution Agreement, announced in July 2014, where the government allocated a total of £41.4 million to the Liverpool City Region for Sustainable Transport to make improvements between 2015/16 to 2020/21. This scheme is part of the final year of programme.
There will be more than £820,000 invested in the project.
The project starts in January 2021 and is due for completion by the end of March 2021.
To complete the project, traffic management will be in place and will involve footpath closures and lane closures along New Chester Road and any affected side roads.
