Strategic Housing Partnership

Wirral has an established Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) which brings together the key stakeholders operating in the area. These include the local authority, police force, Wirral NHS, private businesses and representatives from voluntary, community and faith groups. The aim of the LSP is to bring together these key people to represent their organisations and discuss strategic issues that affect the local area.

The LSP is underpinned by the work of thematic partnerships. These partnerships concentrate and work on specific themes including, housing, children and young people, jobs and the economy and the environment.

Wirral Strategic Housing Partnership (SHP) is the thematic partnership responsible for delivering the ‘High Quality Homes; High Quality Housing Services’ theme within the Sustainable Communities Strategy. The SHP is facilitated by the Council’s Housing Strategy Team and chaired by the ‘Sector Champion’ Brian Simpson of Wirral Partnership Homes. The SHP has members from housing-related organisations across Wirral and also includes community representatives from VCAW (Voluntary & Community Action Wirral).

The aim of the SHP is to ensure that a wide range of high quality housing and related services are available across all sectors of the housing market for Wirral people, which is secure, affordable, of the highest standards and meets varying and changing needs and aspirations.

The SHP works toward these aims through:

  • Responding to long term changes in the population
  • Making better use of existing housing stock
  • Encouraging people to stay within the borough
  • Increasing the availability of housing and delivering affordable homes
  • Making homes warmer
  • Supporting vulnerable people
  • Supporting employment, learning and skills.

Minutes from the SHP meetings since 2011 can be found on this website. If you would like minutes for meetings before January 2011, please contact The Housing Strategy Team direct.
