Violence at Work
Work-related violence is defined as any incident in which a person is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work. This can include verbal abuse or threats as well as physical attacks.
Employees whose job requires them to deal with the public can be at risk from violence at work, particularly people engaged in:
- Licensed premises e.g. pubs and clubs
- Cash transactions
- Representing authority
Employers must assess the risk of violence to their employees. If a risk is identified then measures must be put in place to control the risk.
