Business and IP Centre (BIPC)

A new resource for businesses has been set up in Wirral. The Business and IP Centre (BIPC), based in Birkenhead library, is open to anyone thinking of starting a new business or growing an existing one. A wide range of specialist services are available, all designed to help people protect their idea and get it off the ground. Birkenhead’s BIPC is part of a national network of Business and IP centres.

You can book an appointment which are available every Thursday, and talk about ways to protect a business idea, develop an existing concept or business and research a market.

Our business services

At the centre, you can access a range of databases which contain up-to-the-minute local, national, and international market and industry information. Downloading reports from these databases would usually cost hundreds of pounds but they are free for visitors to Birkenhead library. Anyone writing a business plan, researching a market or interested in finding out more about doing business in a particular location will save money and benefit from using them. The databases are located in Birkenhead Library's reference library.

In addition to the databases, you can access specialist business books and publications as well as one-to-one advice around intellectual property (IP).

There is also a programme of online and physical events planned including workshops, webinars and networking functions. These are all designed to provide people with expert knowledge and help as well as opportunities to connect with other business owners and share ideas.
