At Wirral Council we are keen to show our support for local, national or international campaigns and events by illuminating our civic buildings and flying flags on them too.
You can request to light up the town hall for up to one week, or for the duration of an event, whichever is the less.
Events including Breast Cancer Awareness, Pregnancy and baby loss awareness day and the launch of The Poppy Appeal have all been marked by the town hall being illuminated.
The civic buildings in Wirral which we can light up or fly a flag on, other than the Union flag, are:
- Wallasey Town Hall
- Birkenhead Town Hall
Who can apply?
We welcome applications from all local, regional and national charities and organisations for campaigns that are of a fully inclusive nature.
We will not consider requests from private or business enterprises, or from political campaigns or causes that may polarise public opinion.
We will not fly a flag or light up the town hall in response to world events as an instant response. We'll carefully consider any requests. All requests depend on if the Chief Executive, the Leader of the Council and the Mayor approve and are available.
We have a high volume of requests each year and a busy civic calendar too. This limits the days on which we can fly your flag or illuminate the building. The type of flags we have available is also limited.
How to apply
Complete the online form below to request lighting up a town hall. We require one month’s notice to consider the request.
We will require your name, address, and a contact email or telephone number. You will be asked to provide additional information.
If you would like to request for us to fly a flag, providing we have the flag available, we will consider the request.

What happens next?
