Access to Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
Employees have the opportunity to join the LGPS, which is a tax approved occupational pension scheme. Benefits are based on the length of your membership and final salary. As a statutory funded pension scheme covered by legislation, it offers greater security than other pensions.

Training and development
We are committed to investing in our employees and offer a wide range of training programmes. These include management and role-specific training and apprenticeships schemes. There are also opportunities for employees to undertake a range of external qualifications from NVQs and other professional qualifications to academic degrees.
Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
This is an independently managed free and confidential service for employees and their families which offers 24hrs a day/7 days a week. The programme provides expert advice and counselling in areas such as finances, family and personal problems, work issues, health-related problems, childcare and consumer rights.
Occupational health support
If an employee suffers from ill-health we can refer them to our occupational health service who can offer advice, guidance and access to a range of services.
Health and wellbeing
The council promotes a range of healthy living and wellbeing initiatives for employees. Our programmes aim to improve health, fitness and wellbeing through information and involvement in a range of events.
Use of the council's leisure centres is offered at a discounted rate for all Wirral Council employees. This includes access to six swimming pools and seven fitness suites across the borough
Motorcycle and bicycle loan scheme
Employees have the opportunity to take out an interest free loan to purchase a Motorcycle or pedal cycle.
Thanks to the council’s partnership in the Merseyside Employers Network, our employees are eligible for discount at several participating cycle shops on display of their council ID.
Annual travel pass loan
Loans are available to staff who travel on the Wirral using public transport.
Staff benefits scheme
Wirral Council has a rewards and benefits package for employees. It is available to all permanent employees and some temporary and other staff. Current schemes offer the opportunity to purchase technology, cars, bicycles through a salary sacrifice arrangement.
