New proposed policy documents available for comment
The government has amended housing legislation to allow financial penalties, known as ‘Civil Penalties’ and ‘Rent Repayment Orders’, which can be used instead of prosecution for certain housing related offences under the Housing Act 2004.
Wirral Council has produced draft policy documents which outline the new powers which are available here for your information:
- When to prosecute and when to use Civil Penalties as an alternative
- How to determine the level of Civil Penalty
- When to apply for a Rent Repayment Order
The draft documents are open from Monday 7th May 2018 for a period of six weeks to provide all stakeholders the opportunity to comment on them before they are brought into use.
If you would like to make any comments on the draft policies for consideration before the documents are finalised, please send them to [email protected] by Friday 15th June 2018.
The draft policies above should be read in conjunction with the documents below.
Wirral Council has introduced a scheme where landlords that rent out properties privately will need to obtain a licence. The scheme applies in four parts of the borough.
