Until further notice, tenants should contact their landlord (or agent) to report any urgent disrepair. This should be done in writing (email, text conversations, or letter with proof of postage) before they contact Wirral Council.
The council will not look into non-urgent or serious housing disrepair complaints, unless tenants can provide proof that the landlord hasn’t responded to their request for emergency repairs within 48 hours. Officers may ask for photographs of disrepair instead of visiting properties, if this information can be provided electronically.
Wirral Council works closely with landlords and managing agents through the Landlord Accreditation Team who administer the Property Accreditation Scheme and offer support in several ways, including:
- Private Landlord Forum with support from the Steering Group
- Landlords Link-Up newsletter
The Private Landlord Forum Steering Group consists of landlords, agents and Council officers who meet on a regular basis. Read their Terms of Reference.
Selective licensing
Wirral Council has introduced a scheme where landlords that rent out properties privately will need to obtain a licence. The scheme applies in four parts of the borough.
