The local COVID alert level is Very high.
Wirral has seen a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases since September. The number of cases continues to rise. At the end of August, we were seeing around 90 cases per week, this compares to the current level of 981 cases per week (in the 7 days to 22 October 2020, the most recent day for which figures are available).
Weekly data from ONS (published on 20 October 2020) showed there had been 68 registered deaths in Wirral, of which 7% (or 5 in actual numbers) were COVID-19 deaths.
There is now widespread community transmission, with new positive COVID-19 cases being seen across Wirral and in all age groups.
