The Right Side of Care is a council website for children looked after and care leavers living both in Wirral and further afield. It provides a number of resources for young people who are looked after, aiming to answer any questions they may have and inform them of their rights. As well as information on fostering and adoption, the site covers the care plan, leaving care, accommodation, and much more – and is useful for both young people, professionals and carers.
The site was created in 2014 and developed with children and young people from Wirral. It accompanies a welcome pack that is sent out to young people when they first become looked after. The pack describes a ‘who’s who’ of the care system, feedback forms, and review documents for three age ranges: aged 4-8, aged 9-12, and aged 13+.
The site covers:
• what is care?
• your care plan
• your review
• your social worker
• your health
• fostering and adoption
• leaving care and information for care leavers
• education, training and employment
