If you think your Council Tax Band is incorrect, you will need to contact the Valuation Office Agency.
Wirral Council has no control over banding and does not deal with these appeals.
You can contact us if you think your Council Tax bill is wrong:
- the dates you moved into or out of a property are incorrect
- the dates your tenancy started or ended are incorrect
- you have been charged for a property but you live elsewhere
- another person should be responsible for paying Council Tax at the address
- any other issue

If you disagree with a decision we have made, you can appeal if you think:
- you should not be the person responsible for Council Tax
- your home should be exempt from Council Tax
- the amount of the bill is wrong, for example, if you think you are entitled to a discount or we have not reduced the bill for a disability.
Appeal against a Council Tax decision
When we have looked into your details again, we will write to you to notify you of the outcome.
We may decide:
- that the bill is wrong and send you a new one
- that the bill is right and explain why
- the level of Council Tax Support is incorrect and send you a new bill and new award notification
- the level of Council Tax Support is correct and explain why
If you are still unhappy with our decision, or we do not reply to your letter within 2 months, you can appeal to the Valuation Tribunal.
