Wirral's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion

Wirral Council is committed to promoting equality of opportunity.

We will aim to:

  • celebrate and value diversity
  • stop unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • promote good relations

We are committed to achieving equality for all. We will do this by reducing discrimination in employment and service delivery. This includes discrimination on the grounds of:

  • age
  • disability
  • gender reassignment
  • marriage and civil partnership
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race
  • religion or belief
  • sex and sexual orientation

We are committed to tackling social and economic inequality in Wirral. For example, we aim to build a fairer, more inclusive economy for our residents.

We have a plan called the Wirral Plan. Part of the plan will be a new equality, diversity and inclusion strategy. It sets out what we can do to try and make things more equal. We will:

  • follow the law and do even more if we can
  • do what the Equality and Human Rights Commission suggests
  • check if the things we do might affect people unfairly
  • publish our objectives and whether we meet them
  • keep checking if what we do works, and change it if it doesn't

Equality, diversity and inclusion objectives

While the council is working on the new equality, diversity and inclusion strategy we have developed an interim set of equality, diversity and inclusion objectives.
