Skip permit

Skips must not be placed on the road without a valid permit.

Companies who are registered with us can apply for a skip permit. Companies must provide:

  • proof of Public Liability Insurance for a minimum of £5,000,000
  • proof of a valid Waste Carriers Licence

A permit is required to ensure that skips are not causing disruption to traffic, are sited in a safe position and are properly signed, lighted and guarded in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations.

If you hire a skip you should confirm with the skip company that a permit has been obtained.

Fees

Normal or full size skips (6 tonne or above) - £48.50 for up to 14 days
Mini skips (below 6 tonne) - £32.50 for up to 14 days

An additional fee of £48.50 on top of the above will apply if the council discovers a skip on the road without a permit.

Apply

For companies pre-registered with the council, permits must be requested no later than the end of the working day on which the skip is placed on a public road. No reminders will be given and late applications will result in the additional retrospective fee being applied.
