Pavement cafe licence

You must obtain a licence from the council to operate a pavement café.

The council can remove any unauthorised pavement café without notice being issued to the owner. Persons who obstruct the street without authority may also be prosecuted through the courts.

Annual renewal fee - £73
If your application is refused, the application fee is non-refundable.

This Licence fee was last reviewed 20 March 2019 and will be reviewed again in 12 months.

Licence fees may be updated during the year and the council reserves the right to amend the fee at any time.

Attachments required:

  • proof of Public Liability Insurance for a minimum of £5,000,000
  • proof of planning permission

Processing and timescales

Applications will be considered based upon the size and location of the pavement café, the width of the footway and any other relevant matters. Consultations will be undertaken with adjacent properties and other interested parties.

We will aim to process your application within 8 weeks.  

Exemptions

Charities are exempt from payment of fees but must still complete an application form and adhere to any rules and conditions applied.
