A permit is required for placing storage containers, cherrypickers, Mobile Elevating Working Platforms (MEWPs) and cranes on any part of an adopted road.
This is to ensure that they are not causing disruption to traffic, are sited in a safe position, and are properly marked and lighted. They must not be placed on pavements or grass verges.
Persons who hire storage containers, cherrypickers, MEWPs and cranes are advised to confirm with their hire company that a permit has been obtained.

The same rules and regulations for placing a storage container on the road apply to cherrypickers, MEWPs and cranes.
Failure to follow the rules and regulations may result in enforcement action. This could be the application of a retrospective fee, court prosecution, or removal of the storage container, cherrypicker, MEWP or crane.
