Advertising requirements Licensing Act 2003

Applications must be advertised for no less than 28 consecutive days. This starts on the day after the application was given to the licensing authority.

Applicants must display a notice at the premises to which the application relates. It should be placed where it can be easily read from outside the premises.

The notice must be:

  • equal to or larger than A4 size
  • on pale blue paper
  • printed in black in a font of a size of at least 16

For premises larger than 50m2 a notice must be placed every 50 metres along the perimeter. This should be next to a street if possible.

Newspaper advertisement

Applications must also be advertised with a notice in a local newspaper. If there are none, in a local newsletter, circular or similar document circulating near the premises. This should be done at least once during the period of 10 working days. This starts on the day after the application was given to the licensing authority.
