Under the Nationality Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 all people who are accepted for naturalization as a British Citizen must attend a citizenship ceremony.
Arranging a citizenship ceremony
When the register office receives your certificates from the Home Office they will write to you to invite you to the next citizenship ceremony. Your ceremony must take place within 3 months of Home Office approval.
You will receive a letter giving full details of the ceremony. You will also be asked to complete a questionnaire to tell the Register Office what you need.
You must arrive 30 minutes before your allocated start time so that we can check all your documentation. The ceremony is led by the Superintendent Registrar and usually lasts around 30 minutes.
Applicants will be asked to swear or affirm allegiance to the Sovereign and make an oath of loyalty.
You can bring up to two guests to the ceremony but must let us know beforehand when you complete the questionnaire.
