Dickens Bicentennial

The works of one of Britain’s best-loved writers will be celebrated at a special event at Birkenhead Central Library next month.

Readings from some of Charles Dickens’ most famous works will be at the centre of the celebrations, which are being organised by the Friends of Birkenhead Library.

The event is in commemoration of the author’s 200th birthday (7th February 1812) as well as to celebrate National Libraries Day, and will take place on Saturday 4th February.

Readings will take place between noon and 12.30pm and 3pm-3.30pm. From 10am-noon and 2pm-4pm, a Victorian Tea Room will also be open in the library for members of the public to sample refreshments from the Dickensian era.
