Learning to drive

Engage

What is Engage?

Engage is a scheme for learner drivers between the ages of 17-24.
Engage driving instructors receive training and resources from Merseyside Road Safety Partnership to help young learners become smarter drivers.

There’s no extra cost or time involved but the benefits could prove priceless.

Why Engage?

Young people aged 17 and 24 only account for around 7 % of all car driving licence holders in Great Britain but feature in about 20% of road collisions.

Most young drivers start out with positive intentions to drive safely, but this can be tested when faced with new or challenging situations.
Things like drink and drug driving, peer influence, fatigue, speed and distractions are not included in standard driving lessons - even though they are contributory causes of road traffic collisions.

Engage driving instructors help the learner develop skills and coping strategies to manage these situations confidently and keep themselves, their passengers and other road user’s safe.

Any extra benefits to choosing an engage instructor?

Engage learners who are taught by an engage instructor can access a free one hour driving session for a nominated adult (parent, friend, relative etc) to bring them up to speed with how learners are taught to drive these days because it has certainly changed! If this offer is taken up the learner will have a one-hour post-test lesson, for free.

Engage is the smart choice for learners, parents and instructors
