Improvement works to begin at Leasowe Rec

Visitors to Leasowe Recreation Centre may notice some changes to the building over the next few weeks as work gets underway to improve facilities.

Work on remodelling the first floor of the centre on Twickenham Drive begins today (20th February) and will mean some classes and activities will have to take place elsewhere in the building temporarily.

At the end of the works, however, the centre will have a new open-plan fitness studio capable of hosting larger classes or activities that require more space, with the added potential for this to be temporarily sub-divided to accommodate ‘quieter’ classes at other times.

In addition, there will be a revamped refreshment area while the toilet facilities, particularly for visitors with disabilities, will get a much-needed upgrade.

Squash court 1 will be used for other purposes for the duration of the works, either to store equipment or to stage some classes, while at some times of the day, squash court 2 will also be used for activities other than squash.

Cllr. Ian Lewis, Cabinet member for Customer and Community Engagement, said: "This is great news for the local community as long awaited investment gets underway. While there will be some disruption to our customers and user groups, I'm sure the work will be welcomed by everyone who values the Centre."
