A celebration of Wirral’s heritage

Birkenhead Town Hall is once again the venue for this year’s Wirral History & Heritage Fair, which takes place on Saturday 3rd March.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral will be in attendance, while Wirral’s resident Viking expert, Professor Stephen Harding, will officially open the event which takes place from 10am until 4pm. Admission is free.

Many of Wirral's local history and family history societies, archaeology groups and civic societies will be represented and there will also be books and postcards for sale as well as activities for children. There will be a cafe area selling light refreshments and also films of old Wirral.

Peter France, Chair of the Wirral History and Heritage Association which organises the fair with support from Wirral Council, said: “All the stallholders are volunteers and the Fair is an excellent showcase for the people of Wirral to see how our History and Heritage is protected, promoted, preserved, and here presented.

“This event grows in popularity year on year and remains a must-see for all who are interested in Wirral's rich and varied past.”

Cllr Lesley Rennie, Wirral Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure, added: “Coming in the wake of the launch of our first ever Heritage Strategy for Wirral, this event will highlight further the commitment that we as a Council have to protect and preserve our much valued heritage.”
