Thornton Hough Primary is an Outstanding School

A Wirral school has been named Outstanding in its latest Ofsted report.

Thornton Hough Primary School received the top grading from the government’s inspection body due to ‘Very effective leadership… enabling the school to sustain and build on its history of high achievement.’

The report goes on to praise the ‘high overall quality of provision, including excellent teaching and a vibrant curriculum.’

‘Pupils thrive in an environment where every child is known, cared for and valued, and this is helping them to achieve excellence in both their personal and their academic development.’

Pupils also received high praise for being ‘responsive learners, interested and absorbed in lessons, eager to offer their ideas in discussions, reflective and articulate.’

Particular praise is reserved for the commitment shown by pupils for fundraising for charities at home or abroad.

The school was last inspected in 2007, when it was described as ‘Good with some outstanding features’. The latest report praises the schools ‘outstanding capacity to continue to improve.’

Headteacher Alison Kershaw said: “As a school we are thrilled with the report, which recognises the qualities of our school.

“This is a result of having wonderful children, supportive parents and a very hardworking staff and governing body.”

Cllr Ann McLachlan, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “I congratulate Thornton Hough Primary School, its pupils, staff and governing body on a glowing Ofsted report.

“Everyone involved with the school can feel proud that their hard work and dedication has been recognised, and that real positive outcomes for children are being achieved.”
