Here comes the Bookstart Bear Club

Rock Ferry library has hosted the launch of a new book club designed for young children with a visit from a very special guest.

The event was extremely well-attended and featured storytelling and singing, with a visit from Bookstart Bear himself.

Bookstart Bear Club is a fun, engaging and free membership scheme for all babies, toddlers and preschoolers (0-5 years).

The scheme encourages children to explore stories, books and rhymes with their parents or carers by awarding them certificates as they progress.

Membership is free and every child receives a membership pack, as well as being able to take part in singing and even a Teddy bear’s picnic.

Members can also access online resources through www.bookstart.org.uk including recommended reading lists and online educational puzzles and games.

More Bookstart Bear events will be held at Wirral libraries in the coming months.

Cllr. Chris Meaden, Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Leisure said: “This is such a wonderful way to get children interested in reading and books from an early age.

“The launch was a great success and I’m sure this National initiative will prove a hit as it is rolled out to our other libraries.”

The next Bookstart Bear Club will be held at Wallasey Central library on 2nd February, from 10.00am.
