Walking and Pedestrians
Almost without exception, walking features as part of any trip.
The Merseyside Pedestrian Strategy is a key element of the Merseyside Local Transport Plan. (LTP)
All parts of the LTP have an impact on the pedestrian and through the implementation of the strategy Wirral are working towards;
• A safe and secure pedestrian environment
• Clear directional signing
• Well maintained footways and paths
• Walking enviornments as far as possible clear of clutter and obstruction
• A pleasant and pleasing public realm
Walking is also a free form of exercise and the health benefits of including walking as part of daily routines by walking to school, work or to the shops are well recognised.
Wirral has a comprehensive Rights of Way network.
In recognition of the importance of walking Wirral Council has recently established a Pedestrian Forum.
